Académie Notre

Dame á Madian

"Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." // Matthew 18:3

Our Story

In March 2015, a prayer started for a school in Madian, Haiti to answer the need of educating missionary children, as well as local Haitian children. Over the next year this mustard seed grew into the The Reveye Initiative: an educational ministry committed to fostering a love of learning. Our new school is dedicated to the development of the whole child and desires to awaken their curiosity and wonder.

The word Reveye (Rev-ee-ay) is the Haitian Creole word for AWAKEN.

The School

At the invitation of the Bishop, we were blessed to open a new Catholic school in rural Madian, Haiti, in October of 2016, after delaying the start of the school year because of Hurricane Matthew.

Our school, named Académic Notre Dame á Madian, is located at the John Paul II Center for New Evangelization in the Nippes department of Haiti, about 60 miles west of Port Au Prince.

In collaboration with this special community, we provide accessible education to both missionary and local children. We started with 9 students in our first year, then doubling both our student enrollment and our staff members in our second year. We anticipate 30 enrolled students in the 2018-2019 academic year.

Current Needs

We need continual support to operate our school and to cover various capital improvements and ongoing expenses including:

  • DAILY MEALS: Our students are blessed to receive daily breakfast and lunch.
  • SUPPLIES: As our school grows we are continuing to improve our learning environment with electrical improvements, additional furniture and learning materials, outdoor playground equipment, and more.
  • PROGRAMS: Our school students receive weekly formation in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. They have dance and music class, as well as lessons in Haitian Creole, English, and French.
  • SUMMER CAMP: Our summer Catholic Kids Camp is a huge hit for over 100 local children in our town full of arts & crafts, music, Catechesis lessons, and outdoor fun.
